Payroll & HR Specialist (Temp-to-Hire)

Location: Richmond, CA (Onsite)
Salary: $75,000-$85,000 annually
Schedule: Full-time, onsite

About the Role

Our client, a growing company in Richmond, is seeking a highly organized and dependable Payroll & HR Specialist to serve as the right-hand support to leadership. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and takes pride in being the steady, detail-oriented backbone of payroll and HR operations.

You will handle payroll processing, provide day-to-day HR administrative support, and help keep the department organized and running smoothly. This position plays a key role in reducing the administrative workload for ownership and ensuring a positive employee experience.


Key Responsibilities

Payroll

  • Process weekly and biweekly payroll accurately and on schedule
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure data integrity across systems
  • Handle payroll adjustments, deductions, and verifications as needed
  • Assist with year-end payroll reporting and audits

Human Resources & Administration

  • Assist with new-hire onboarding, including forms, benefits enrollment, and handbook acknowledgments
  • Support employees with benefit changes, including medical, dental/vision, and 401(k)
  • Respond to general HR questions and help resolve routine administrative matters
  • Maintain organized employee personnel files and digital records
  • Assist in updating policies, employee handbook materials, and compliance documentation
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for day-to-day HR needs, helping minimize escalations to ownership
  • Provide general administrative support to leadership as their "right-hand" resource

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of payroll experience
  • Strong understanding of California and Federal labor laws
  • Proficiency in Excel and comfort learning new systems
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to accuracy
  • Professional, positive, and team-oriented demeanor
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
